Presentation of the Label Jury

Four Network exhibitors from Bulgaria, France, Italy and Slovak Republic will take part in the Europa Cinemas Label Jury on the occasion of the upcoming Giornate degli Autori (30 Aug – 9 Sept 2023). The Jury members will award one film among the 12 European films out of the “Official selection” and the section “Special Events”.

The four Jury members this year are:

Lukas Berberich (Director, Kino Úsmev, Košice, Slovak Republic)

Lukas  Berberich is a film curator and producer. He is the director of Kino Úsmev, an art house cinema in Košice, Slovakia, which he co-founded and has directed since 2015.  As a producer and cultural manager he has worked on a number of international film, music, theatre and visual art projects. He participates regularly in fora for audiovisual art professionals, including film festivals in New York, Tokyo, Berlin, San Sebastian, Sarajevo.

Gerardo de Vivo (Chief Manager, Modernissimo, Naples, Italy)

Gerardo de Vivo is chief director of the Multicinema Modermissino, which belongs to the Lucisano media group, a cinema that has been in the historic centre of Naples since 1994 and is until today a historic meeting point for Neapolitan students. Modernissimo has a much diversified audience, as the cinema offers both mainstream and more specialized content for film buffs, such as the famous restored classics and the original versions of niche films. The cinema is part of the Europa Cinemas network since twenty years.

Priscilla Gessati (Director, L'Entrepôt, Paris, France)

After studying Russian at INALCO and a master's degree in "Politics of Culture" at the Institute of European Studies (Paris 8), Priscilla Gessati was in charge of research, statistics and the Network Review within the European program Europa Cinemas. Highly committed in programming and defending arthouse cinema and diversity, she coordinates distribution and publishing activities at Potemkine Films. Priscilla has also managed Le Balzac, a historical cinema theatre located on the Champs-Élyseés and co-authored, with Joël Chapron, "Principles and mechanisms of financing French cinema" and "Regulation and practices of cinematographic exploitation". She recently started a new position at l'Entrepôt, an atypical site that counts a cinema as well as a music venue, an art gallery, a restaurant and a bar.

Mira Staleva (Managing director, Sofia Film Fest on the Road, Sofia, Bulgaria)

Mira Staleva has been involved actively in festival and market management and programming, production, consulting, distribution and exhibition in the last 25  years. After completing  her education in theology and psychology, she joined the team of Cinema House and Sofia International Film Festival from the very beginning. She is currently Managing Director of Sofia IFF/Art Fest Ltd, Head of the festival’s co-production market Sofia Meetings and very involved in audience development projects. Recent co-productions are LUKA by Jessica Woodworth, BRIGHTON 4 by Levan Koguashvili, DARKLING by Dusan Milic and HOW I LEARNED TO FLY by Radivoje Andric. She is also a board member of the European Film Academy and the CICAE.
