13rd October 2019

4th European Arthouse Cinema Day

The CICAE (International Confederation of Arthouse Cinemas) and Europa Cinemas team up again to celebrate on 13 October the 4th European Arthouse Cinema Day. This event highlights the engagement of film theatres for European cultural diversity through varied, curated and exclusive programmes. This year its outstanding ambassadors are French director Céline Sciamma, Belgian filmmakers Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne and German actress Sandra Hüller.

This initiative brings the participant cinemas from all over the world the opportunity to actively promote their identity and display their European focus by increasing audiences and circulation for these films. In this 4th edition a special attention will be paid to young audience and participants are invited to organise additional school screenings on Friday 11th or Monday 14th October within the framework of the event.

Last year was a great success with more than 300 cinemas from Europa Cinemas Network joining in !

The European Arthouse Cinema Day aims to become an essential cinematographic rendezvous for the audience each autumn. It is a good way to valorise art cinemas as meeting points in local communities and to highlight their everyday commitment to championing demanding and original programming!

Participant cinemas have complete freedom to participate at any level and to create their own programme on the condition that it includes European films. Promotional materials and some ideas or suggestions for your programme are available in the official website download area.
