3rd European Art Cinema Day

After its first two vibrant editions, the European Art Cinema Day (EACD) will be back on Sunday 14th October 2018 with about 600 cinemas registered, more than half of which belonging to the Europa Cinemas Network. The event is championed by directors Alice Rohrwacher, Christian Petzold and Michel Ocelot.

The event which was founded in 2016 by the CICAE (International Confederation of Arthouse Cinemas) in partnership with Europa Cinemas invites exhibitors to celebrate their European convictions and, meanwhile, the arthouse identity of their cinema through dynamic events and innovative approaches (previews, debates with audiences, special screenings and activities…) for all kinds of audiences.
This year will be one more great celebration with brilliant initiatives within the Network such as the simultaneous premieres of Matteo Garrone’s DOGMAN orchestrated by the BFI across the UK, a collaboration with the Europe House in le Mans, a “Lost in Frenchlation” anniversary screening at the Luminor in Paris, a genuine film marathon from breakfast to supper at Itsas Mendi (Urrugne, Basque Country), a 100% young audience programme at Kino Bize in Riga. Some theaters will have strongly committed programmes such as Amandine Gay’s documentary SPEAK UP (OUVRIR LA VOIX) at the Filmpalette in Cologne or the drama WIR SIND JUNG. WIR SIND STARK at the Endstation Kino in Bochum and some others will partner especially for the event, like Stadtkino and Moviemento in Vienna and Linz.

The EACD provides a framework to showcase the cultural diversity of European productions as well as the everyday commitment of the network’s cinemas to support demanding and original programming.
