Collaborate to Innovate: New workshops for applicants

Collaborate to Innovate is five years old and has made a big impact. A new Europa Cinemas’ network survey shows 91% of members believe the scheme to be important and two-thirds rating it ‘very important’ or ‘essential’. It has a simple but critical mission, relevant to every network member: to find new ways to tackle our shared challenges and to open up new and sustainable opportunities.

To support applicants in preparing viable applications, Europa Cinemas will host a series of 90-minute online workshops in English, held bi-weekly starting on 7 October, and moderated by Michael Gubbins.

Each session will focus on one of three key steps: identifying the challenges cinemas face and learning how to plan a project to effectively address these challenges. They will be supported by the coordinators of previous projects who will share their experiences and offer and demonstrate the challenges, and how they can be overcome. And Europa Cinemas will show how the Training Boot Camps and workshops can help projects succeed.

1. IDENTIFYING YOUR CINEMAS NEEDS

Innovation does not begin with technology but with a clear understanding of the problems we want to solve. The workshops will begin by identifying business areas where cinemas need and want improvements, efficiencies, and fresh thinking. That might be in audience development, programming, customer relationship management, data analytics, loyalty schemes, or marketing. Or, you may have your own priorities.

The workshops will identify new ways to take on our challenges: Some will be new to the network, but the scheme also encourages the adoption, adaptation and replication of innovations already working elsewhere in the network but new to another region. The workshops will show how to real-life challenges into innovative projects, and it might be a chance to find partners with similar interests.

2. TURNING CHALLENGES INTO A VIABLE PROJECT

The planning stage may be the most important in creating a viable and sustainable project. The workshops will cover successful budgeting, successful partnerships, finding external funding and time management planning. It will clearly explain the guidelines and eligible costs and show how to create credible KPIs.

Participants will hear from the Europa Cinemas team, experts and the experience of previous applicants. Good planning is key to a winning application and to the overall success of a project.

3. HOW TO SUCCESSFULLY RUN A PROJECT

And finally, the sessions will look at managing a project through to a successful conclusion, and how to create long-term value for a cinema and the network. Previous project coordinators will share the ‘dos and don’ts’ of project management and offer advice on managing unexpected problems. The Workshops will include advice on budget management, partnership coordination and other technical and managerial issues.

Collaborate to Innovate was designed by and for network cinemas. The workshops will show how every network member can take part with the right idea, planning and project management.
