WHISPERS IN THE WOODS (LE CHANT DES FORETS)
Success for the documentary in France
Released just before Christmas, the documentary directed by wildlife photographer Vincent Munier is set to exceed one million admissions.
The film has currently attracted 925,000 admissions in France, with an excellent average of over 3,000 admissions per print.
The photographer's previous film, THE VELVET QUEEN, co-directed with Marie Amiguet, reached 625,000 admissions two years ago in France.
You have to go back to 2015 (TOMORROW, 1.08 million) and 2016 (SEASONS, 1.04 million) to find feature-length documentaries that have been as successful. WHISPERS IN THE WOODS could therefore be the best documentary in French cinemas in 10 years.
Previously, ON THE WAY TO SCHOOL had reached 1.5 million admissions in 2013.
Abroad, THE VELVET QUEEN performed very well in several European countries, (notably Belgium, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Poland), with more than 815,000 admissions in total, half of which were in Europa Cinemas theaters. WHISPERS IN THE WOODS could follow the same path, with releases planned in Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands in the coming weeks.
It will also be the second biggest success for HAUT ET COURT since THE CLASS (Palme d'Or) in 2008, and the second big success for the company in a year, a few months after THE RICHEST WOMAN IN THE WORLD.
