Within the framework of the EURIMAGES programme, Europa Cinemas supports cinema exhibition in the member States of the Council of Europe.
This support programme which has been running since 1993, aims at encouraging exchanges, improving the circulation of European films outside their country of origins and increasing their visibility on the screens.
This action is complementary with the support programme towards cinemas operating within the MEDIA programme of the European Union. It facilitates the integration of the cinemas in these schemes when they join the European Union.
Therefore, only the cinemas located in the EURIMAGES member States, which do not have access to any MEDIA Programme´s support, are eligible for assistance.
In 2007, 5 countries can benefit from this support to cinemas: Croatia, The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro and Turkey. The Europa Cinemas / Eurimages Network intervenes in 24 European Cities and supports 39 cinemas totalling 141 screens.
In 2008, 4 countries will benefit from this support to cinemas: The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro and Turkey.
