After receiving the Palme d’Or at the latest Cannes Film Festival,
4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days, directed by Romanian Cristian Mungiu, was awarded
Best European Film during the 20th edition of the EFA Awards Ceremony held in Berlin on Saturday 1st December.
Mungiu also picked up the honours for
Best European Director.
On the whole, 17 Prizes were awarded during the European Film Awards Ceremony.
Fatih Akin won for second time after the 2007 Cannes Film Festival
the Best Screenplay prize for
The Edge of Heaven. In 2004, his film
Head On, celebrated by the critics, had won the Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival.
Following her long line of awards for her performance in Stephen Frears’s
The Queen,
Helen Mirren has been awarded
Best European actress.
Sasson Gabai won
Best Actor for his performance in
The Band’s visit, directed by Israeli Eran Kolirin.
French director
Jean-Luc Godard, who did not appear on stage, received the European Film Academy lifetime achievement award.
After London, Roma, Paris, Barcelona, Warsaw and Berlin, the European Film Awards will take place in the next years in: Copenhagen (2008), Berlin (2009), Tallinn (2010).
