In Edinburgh, the jury gave the film the
Michael Award for Best New British Feature, while Sam Riley won the Award of the Best Performance in a British Feature Film for his portrayal of Joy Division singer Ian Curtis.
"Itīs fabulous. Itīs my first movie so I had no expectations for the film," said Corbijn. "I did all these things that people said I shouldnīt be doing. Shooting in black and white, having an unknown as the main character, putting my own money in. Most of these things are what people say are great."
The film will soon be released in Belgium (12 September, Paradiso), in France (26 September, La Fabrique de Films), in the UK (5 October, Momentum) and in the Netherlands (25 October, Paradiso).
