MUVESZ, PUSKIN and SZINDBAD - BUDAPEST (HUNGARY)
EXHIBITOR: FERENC PORT, BUDAPEST FILM

Run by Budapest Film also distributor, the film theatres Muvész, Puskin and Szindbád are now striking for their high-quality programming, which makes them an absolute must for Hungarian film fans. Their performance speaks for itself, with 450,000 admissions per year, and testifies to the dynamic policy pursued by the team headed by Ferenc Port. By the way, he in turn pays tribute to his support team, who watch nearly 250 films a year in order to draw up a programming schedule in which European cinema makes up the lion’s share of screenings (54% for the European non-national films!). In addition to films, the cinemas also offer numerous events, including a French cinema festival, a Spanish cinema week or Polish film days. The film theatres have paid particular attention to ticket pricing, especially for young audiences, who enjoy attractive cut rates. Nowadays the Szindbád is one of the oldest film theatres in Budapest still in operation. The cinema, inaugurated in 1920, has two screens on which it has been showing arthouse and repertory films. The Puskin is one of the most highly esteemed and prestigious cinemas in the city. In 1997, more than 70 years after it was opened, the cinema acquired two additional screens. Each of the three screens is named after the title of a European masterpiece: Metropolis, Amarcord and Körhinta. Finally, the Muvész is the largest arthouse cinema in the Hungarian capital. It comprises five screens and its lobby is used for original exhibitions picking up on the lively mood of the film theatres.
