The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE), through Europa Cinemas, has supported from 1994 to 2010 the initiatives of the member cinemas towards the programming of European films, more particularly films which obtained the French CNC's agreement. The "MAEE" programme was developed in order to make the European films' access to screens easier and to increase the duration of their exhibition in the member cinemas.
In 2010, 7 countries could benefit from this programme located in the countries which joined neither the MEDIA Programme of the European Union nor the Eurimages Programme of the Council of Europe, notably the CIS countries, Central and Eastern European countries and Latin America.
11 cinemas (18 screens, 10 citites) were supported. They were located in Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Moldavia, Russia and Ukraine.
