OH BOY and EAT SLEEP DIE outperform at Angers
The jury of the 25th Premiers Plans Film festival in Angers, presided over by Noémie Lvovsky, has revealed its list of winners: OH BOY and EAT SLEEP DIE, two debut feature films, shared the main prizes.
The Special Jury Prize and the People’s Choice Prize were awarded to OH BOY , the first film by the German Jan-Ole Gerster, filmed in black and white. In this comedy drama, Niko, a good-for-nothing in his thirties, wanders around Berlin determined to find at least one decent cup of coffee and to borrow money; a veiled portrait of the contemporary German capital.
The film received prizes at several festivals, including Best Screenplay in Karlovy Vary and Munich and for Best Actor (Tom Schilling) in Oldenburg, though. It had a successful release in Germany and Switzerland but as yet has no distributor in France. Its sales agent is Schiwago Film GmbH, Gneisenaustr. 66, 10961 Berlin, Germany - Tel : +49 30 6953980 Email: email@example.com
The Grand Prix was awarded to the first feature by Swedish Gabriela Pichler, EAT SLEEP DIE , which follows more traditional dramatic lines. Raisa, a young immigrant from Eastern Europe and factory worker in Sweden is made redundant despite her commitment. With a dependent father, unqualified and without a driving licence, she walks the streets of the town she grew up in, looking for work, refusing to give up.
This colourful film won the People’s Choice Award during Critics’ Week at the latest Venice Film Festival. It also received several Guldbagge prizes - awarded by the Swedish film industry – including Best Film, Best Director and Best Actress (Nermina Lukaè). It will be distributed in France in April by ASC Distribution. The Yellow Affair is in charge of its distribution rights: Götgatan 9 - SE-11646, Stockholm, Sweden – Tel: +46 8 645 1212 - www.yellowaffair.com
