THE PATIENCE STONE, Europa Cinemas ‘Coup de Coeur’

THE PATIENCE STONE (SYNGUE SABOUR), a Franco-Afghan film by Atiq Rahimi, received the ‘Coup de Coeur’ Europa Cinemas exhibitors’ award last weekend at the network’s 17th Conference in Paris.

Out of 16 films shown, the film was honoured during the first day of the International Conference. The screenings took place at the L'Entrepôt and 7 Parnassiens cinemas.

The film is Atiq Rahimi’s second feature-length work, after EARTH AND ASHES. Apart from being a filmmaker, Atiq Rahimi is first and foremost a writer. THE PATIENCE STONE is based on his own novel, SYNGUE SABOUR, which won the Prix Goncourt in 2008.

The novel was adapted in collaboration with screenwriter Jean-Claude Carrière, and its notable protagonist is actress Golshifteh Farahani. Thierry Arbogast was the director of cinematography and the original sound track was composed by Max Richter.

Before being presented at the Conference, THE PATIENCE STONE was shown at film festivals in Toronto and London and gained the best film award at the festivals in Saint-Jean-de-Luz and Didor. It also won the Best Actress award at the Abu Dhabi Film Festival.

Sales are handled by Le Pacte . The film is produced by The Film et Studio 37.

THE PATIENCE STONE is due to go on release in France on 20 February 2013 and 28 March 2013 in the Netherlands.

Sony Pictures Classics is the film’s distributor in the USA.
