European Film Weeks in Morocco 2013

Europa Cinemas is to provide artistic direction for Morocco’s European Film Weeks for the 14th year running.

The European Film Weeks, organised by the EU Delegation to Morocco in partnership with the   Moroccan Cinema Center and in collaboration with A3 Rezo and Europa Cinemas, offer a selection of the best recent European films every year.

This 22nd event will take place from 4 to 14 March 2013, offering filmgoers in Rabat and Casablanca exclusive big screen viewings of these eight feature-length films:

Reality – winner of the Grand Prix at the last Cannes Film Festival – will be the event’s opening screening, an opportunity for Moroccan filmgoers to revisit the grand tradition of comedy, Italian-style.

And filmgoers will also be able to see Noémie Lvovsky’s Camille Rewinds, one of this season’s best surprise offerings from French cinema.

Another film appearing during Directors’ Fortnight 2012, The We and the I by Michel Gondry, will bring freshness and energy to the programme.

Germany will be represented by Andreas Dresen’s Stopped on Track, winner of Un Certain Regard award 2011, and Belgium represented by the collective film The Fairy.

As every year, Eastern Europe will be celebrated with two films, Avé by Konstantin Bojanov, an initiatory road movie discovered during Critics’ Week in Cannes in 2011, and Essential Killing, another journey into a more mystical realm, by Polish director Jerzy Skolimowski.

In a final event the Irish-Algerian director Safinez Bousbia will attend a screening of her documentary El Gusto, a film which pays homage to Chaabi music.

As usual, activities will be planned alongside screenings. Additionally, Moroccan short films will be shown prior to some screenings, particularly Hicham Ayouch’s As they Say, noted at the last Tangier Mediterranean Short Film Festival.
