European Film Weeks in Morocco 2011
Europa Cinemas is in charge of the artistic direction of the European Film Weeks in Morocco. The upcoming 20th edition, taking place between 21st February and 2nd March in the cities of Rabat and Casablanca, will continue to portray the quality and diversity of European production.
Organized by the Delegation of the European Union in Morocco, in partnership with the CCM (Centre Cinématographique Marocain), and in collaboration with A3 Communication and Europa Cinemas, each year the European Film Weeks offer a selection of the best European films.
Last year the event reached a record-high 17,000 spectators! The upcoming 20th edition, taking place between 21st February and 2nd March in the cities of Rabat and Casablanca, will continue to portray the quality and diversity of European production.
Here are the eight features which will be premiered during this 2011 edition.
Potiche, a bubbly comedy by François Ozon and a big hit with French audiences, will be the event’s opening film, and La nostra vita by Daniele Luchetti, Another Year by Mike Leigh and Biutiful by Alejandro González Iñárritu, will be examples of the great vitality of the European auteur cinema. Also programmed are The Robber by Benjamin Heisenberg, an Austro-German co-production and an enigmatic thriller which attracted a lot of attention at the Berlinale in 2010, and the moving Illegal by Olivier Masset-Depasse, which was very well received at the Directors' Fortnight in 2010 and will represent Belgium in the programme. Last but not least, the Danish documentary Armadillo by Janus Metz - awarded at Cannes Critics' Week - will bring a realistic testimony on the war in Afghanistan, alongside another film presented at the Critics' Week, Sound of Noise by Ola Simonsson and Johannes Nilson, representing Sweden.
Promotional events will complement the screenings, some of which will be preceded by Moroccan short films.
