European Film Weeks in Morocco
For the eleventh year Europa Cinemas will provide the artistic direction for the European Film Weeks festival taking place in Morocco.
Organised every year since 1991 by the Delegation of the European Commission and the Embassies and Cultural Institutes of member states, in partnership with the Moroccan Cinema Centre, this event constitutes a concrete symbol of the Euro-Mediterranean partnership in Morocco. Consequently, last year nearly 17,000 filmgoers had attended what is one of the country’s main cinematographic events.
From 28 January to 12 February, with the support of A3 Communication in Morocco, this touring event – a highlight on the calendar for cinema enthusiasts - is proposing a European tour to showcase ten films, which reflect the full diversity and quality of European production.
The 2010 selection once again reaffirms the exceptional vitality of European cinema with ten award-winning or shortlisted feature films at Cannes, Venice or Berlin, starting of course with the film by Michael Haneke, THE WHITE RIBBON, winner of the Palme d’Or in Cannes.
The other new titles, which will be presented to audiences successively in Tetuan, Rabat, Casablanca and Marrakech, are: BROKEN EMBRACES by Pedro Almodóvar, LOOKING FOR ERIC by Ken Loach, VINCERE by Marco Bellocchio, A TOWN CALLED PANIC by Vincent Patar and Stéphane Aubier, THE HAPPIEST GIRL IN THE WORLD by Radu Jude, SOUL KITCHEN by Fatih Akin, FAREWELL GARY by Nassim Amaouche, COUNTRY TEACHER by Bohdan Slama and LET THE RIGHT ONE IN by Tomas Alfredson.
In addition to the film screenings, there will also be some promotional activities taking place. Original short films from the southern Mediterranean region will also open some of the sessions.
