Europa Cinemas at the 10th edition of the Venice Days!


For the fourth year in a row, young film-lovers representing each of the European countries will meet and attend the Venice Days / Giornate degli Autori / (28 August - 7 September). With the entry of Croatia into the European Union, the young cinemagoers selected through the Europa Cinemas Network will be 28 this year. It is also the tenth year that Europa Cinemas will be in Venice to award its Label to the best European film shown at Giornate degli Autori/Venice Days. 



This initiative is set up by the European Parliament and Europa Cinemas in partnership with the Venice Days / Giornate degli Autori and

On this occasion, the 28 participants will watch all the films presented at the Venice Days as well as those competing for the Lux Prize , and play the role of film critics by contributing to a blog and to Europa Cinemas social networks. They will also participate in round-table discussions and debates with film industry professionals, critics and filmmakers.

By taking part in an international festival, the participants, who are already involved in a reflection about contemporary cinema through their personal activities, will have the opportunity to deepen their interest in cinema and take a step in their career path.

This event is also the occasion to highlight a youth that is far from clichés, passionate about current cinema and open to the world, especially now that new technologies allow them to share this passion in real time.


 This year marks the tenth year that the Europa Cinemas Label has been awarded in Venice.
 A Jury comprised of four Network exhibitors will award one European film among the Venice Days selection:

ELENA MASCIOLI- Cinema Farnese - ROMA – Italy

Elena Mascioli is co-founder of Farnese CinemaLab, the educational project team of Cinema Farnese Persol in Rome, which was created to manage the organisation of school screenings and educational projects. She is in charge of writing and selecting the didactic material provided to students and teachers, and leads post-screening discussions with students. Elena has been member of the Europa Cinemas Label jury in Cannes and of the CICAE jury at Venice Film festival during 2011 editions.


Since 2006, Yannick Reix is Director of the  Network Cinema member Le Concorde (2 screens) in la Roche-sur-Yon. He is also Artistic Director of the Festival International de la Roche-sur-Yon, the 4th edition will take place from 16th to 21st October.

VLADIMIR TRIFONOV- Cinema Lumiere - SOFIA – Bulgaria

Film programmer with 20 years of experience, Vladimir Trifonov has programmed 4 theaters - the last 2 (Cinema Center / 2003-2006 and Cinema House / 2007-August 2013) has been members of Europa Cinemas Network. For last 9 years, he is programmer of the oldest and most popular Bulgarian film event - Cinemania Fest where he has organised retrospectives of Bergman, Truffaut, Hitchcock, Fellini (from 35mm film prints), Pasolini, Antonioni, Visconti, Scola and Taviani. He is as well editor of book series about cinema "Amarcord" with 30 published books for last 10 years.

WILKO SCHURINGA - Theater de Lieve vrouw - AMERSFOORT - The Netherlands

Wilko Schuringa (1968) studied Art & Culture at the Erasmus University of Rotterdam, specializing in Art management and focusing his thesis on European Art cinema and Multiplexes. Wilko has worked as Director and Head of Programming in several film theaters in The Netherlands. Since 2008, he is Head of Film in filmtheater De Lieve Vrouw in Amersfoort. The theater is fully digitalized and all 3 screens are equipped with Barco projectors. Visiting several major international film festivals and working closely together with Dutch film distributors, Wilko makes sure the theater is dedicated to European and international art cinema.

Label winning films receive the support of the Europa Cinemas Network, with additional promotion and incentives for exhibitors to extend the film’s run on screen. The Label is also awarded in Berlin, Cannes, Karlovy Vary and for the first time this year at the festival del film Locarno.
