Europa Cinemas Label - Berlinale - February 6-16, 2014


In the frame of the upcoming 64th Berlinale, a Jury made of 4 Network‘s exhibitors will award the Europa Cinemas Label to a European film from Panorama section. The 4 Jury members from Switzerland, Iceland, Germany and Ireland will announce the Award winning film on Friday 14 February 2014. This year, 12 films from Panorama are in competition for the Label:

The 4 Jury members are: Hrönn Sveinsdóttir (Iceland), Matthias Stütz (Germany), Laurent Dutoit (Switzerland) and David O Mahony (Ireland).


Hrönn Sveinsdóttir, Bíó Paradís, Reykjavík (Iceland)

Hrönn Sveinsdóttir has produced and directed several television programs and documentaries in her native Iceland. She is a 2006 graduate of Brooklyn College in New York, where she studied film production and political science. Since 2012 she has been the managing director of Bíó Paradís, Iceland's first and only art house cinema.”

Matthias Stütz, UNION Filmtheater Friedrichshagen, Berlin (Germany)

For more than ten years, the architect Matthias Stütz has been the Managing Director of the UNION Filmtheater Friedrichshagen - an art house cinema located in South-East of Berlin. His project is to develop this cinema into a local cultural centre offering not only art house cinema, but also events such as concerts, readings, cabaret shows and much more. In 2014, Matthias Stütz is going to expand his movie theater from one to three screens, adding a café and a bistro 

Laurent Dutoit, Cinéma Les Scala, Geneva (Switzerland)

Laurent Dutoit joined the Swiss independent distribution company Agora Films in 1999 and is now the CEO of the company. Agora Films is one of the last distribution companies based in the French part of Switzerland. It releases 12 to 15 films per year (fictions and documentaries) and focuses mostly on European "arthouse films" which has become the trademark of the company. Laurent is also the general manager of the cinemas Les Scala and Le City in Geneva (both of them are members of Europa Cinemas) and is also taking care of the programming of two others cinemas in Geneva (Bio and Nord-Sud).

David O Mahony, access>CINEMA, Dublin (Ireland)

David O Mahony is Film Programme Manager at access>CINEMA, the resource organisation for regional cultural cinema exhibition in Ireland. His work involves film programming for a variety of cultural cinema venues and film clubs throughout Ireland. Besides being a film programmer, David is also a writer and broadcaster specialising in cinema. He is a member of the Dublin Film Critics Circle.
