Directors' Fortnight: presentation of the jury of the Europa Cinemas Label - Cannes (18-28 May 2017)
In the framework of the upcoming Directors’ Fortnight, a Jury made of 4 Network exhibitors will award the Europa Cinemas Label to a European film from the selection. The 4 Jury members from the United Kingdom, France, Finland and Poland will announce the Award winning film on Friday, May 26, 2017. This year, 12 films will compete for the Label.
Roger GIBSON - Chichester Cinema at New Park – Chichester (UK)
Studied Painting at the Royal Academy of Art London (1958-61) and followed with lecturing in Art, History of Art and later Film Studies. Founded Film Society (1956) in his earlier Art College in Rochester Kent. When the last Cinema in Chichester closed in 1978 he founded and programmed a Film Society at Chichester College of Technology, which moved to the present premises at New Park, from 16mm to digital in 2010. In addition to this year round cinema he has been Artistic director of the Chichester International Film Festival established in 1992. For his services to Cinema in Chichester he received a Civic Award and Honoury MA (2003) from the University of Chichester.
Paolo MORETTI - Le Concorde, La Roche-sur-Yon (France)
Since 2001 Paolo Moretti worked for several film festivals and film institutions in Europe, including the Pompidou Center in Paris, Filmoteca Española in Madrid, Leeds International Film Festival (UK), Cinemateca Portuguesa in Lisbon, One World in Prague and Cinéma du Réel in Paris. From 2008 to 2011, he was program advisor of the Venice Film Festival, focusing in particular on short and medium length films (Orizzonti). In 2012 and 2013 program advisor for the Rome Film Festival (CinemaXXI). Since 2012 Selection Committee member of FIDMarseille and program advisor for Visions du Réel (Nyon). He is the associate Producer of the American independent feature L for Leisure by Lev Kalman and Whitney Horn, which premiered at IFFR Rotterdam in 2014. Since 2014 he is the director of the Concorde film theater and of the La Roche-sur-Yon International Film Festival.
Hannele PELLINEN - Kino Tapiola, Espoo (Finland)
Hannele Pellinen has been running the arthouse cinema Kino Tapiola in Espoo, Finland since 2010 and is also now programming Helsinki’s newest cinema, Riviera. She has also worked for Espoo Ciné International Film Festival and for film production companies. Her background is in drama studies in UK, where she also worked years in the events industry before returning to Finland in 2006.
Joanna ŻAK - Kino Nowe Horyzonty, Wroclaw (Poland)
Joanna Zak is a film programmer and producer with 10 years' industry experience in film, music and educational events. Since 2012 she’s a programmer of New Horizons Cinema in Wroclaw, before that she was running her own auteur projects -Kinoranek for kids and Orbis Pictus Cinema (arthouse cinema in Poznan). Member of jury at Festroia International Film Festival (Portugal). Live cinema enthusiast!
