BABAI wins Europa Cinemas Label in Karlovy Vary
The first feature by Visar Morina BABAI (Father), was awarded the Europa Cinemas Label at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. The jury was composed of four cinema exhibitors, members of our Network. BABAI will now receive the support from the Europa Cinemas Network, with additional promotion and incentives for exhibitors to extend the film’s run on screens.
The jury issued the following statement about the German film: "BABAI is a moving yet brutally honest story of a ten year old boy searching for his father who has abandoned him for a new life in Germany. Unaware of the dangers, the boy attempts every possibility to smuggle his way into Germany to be reunited with his father.
Visar Morina's debut feature BABAI, which is filmed from the perspective of the boy, shows restraint and confidence in its depiction of the larger immigration theme and in how it explores the complex relationship between a father and son who are in an impossible situation."
