Europa Cinemas at Cannes 2017


Conferences, round tables and European movies on the menu! Like every year, Europa Cinemas will attend the Cannes Film Festival, notably with its traditional Europa Cinemas Exhibitors Meeting at the InterContinental Carlton and as part of the Directors' Fortnight. Europa Cinemas Exhibitors Meeting

Sunday, May 21st, 2017 – 15:00 to 17:00

Hotel InterContinental Carlton (Grand Salon) - 58 Boulevard La Croisette, Cannes

Presentation of 2016 Network results and 2017 network activities. This meeting will be followed by a cocktail reception from 17:00 to 18:00. 



3:00pm: Welcome speech by Nico Simon (President, Europa Cinemas) and Claude-Eric Poiroux (General Director, Europa Cinemas)

 3:10pm:  Speech by Lucia Recalde Langarica (Head of Creative Europe)

 3:20pm: Overview of the box-office and market shares 2016 in Europe by Julio Talavera (European Audiovisual Observatory)

 3:35pm: Presentation of the 2016 results in the Europa Cinemas network by Claude-Eric Poiroux

 3:50pm: European perspectives by Evelyne Gebhardt, Vice-president of the European Parliament and Lux Prize manager

 4:00pm: Presentation of the Innovation Survey by Michael Gubbins (SampoMedia) and presentation of the Audience Development & Innovation Labs by Madeleine Probst (Vice-President, Europa Cinemas and Programme Producer, Watershed, Bristol)

 4:25pm: Various topics: Europa Cinemas’ Network Conference (Bucharest, 24-26th November 2017) and Network Reviews

 4:35: Q&A and conclusion.

 The meeting will be followed by a cocktail.



Directors’ Fortnight – Europa Cinemas Label

From Thursday 18 to Sunday, May 28th, 2017

Théâtre Croisette, JW Marriott

Since 2003, the Europa Cinemas Label is awarded by a jury of exhibitors of the network to the best European film of the Fortnight. What film will be the successor of Mercenaire (Sacha Wolff)? All will be answered on Friday, May 26th with the four members of the jury: Paolo Moretti (le Concorde, La Roche sur Yon, France), Roger Gibson (Chichester Cinema at New Park, Chichester,UK), Hallene Pellinen (Kino Tapiola, Espoo, Finland), Joanna Zak (Kino Nowe Horyzonty, Wroclaw, Poland).

The continuing centrality of the cinema experience in driving demand for film is a well-established fact in the Digital Age. This session will look at how the oldest form of film screening is evolving in terms of function, design and content and finding new ways and opportunities to connect to changing patterns of audience demand.
