Berlinale - Europa Cinemas at the EFM from 6 to 14 February 2014
Europa Cinemas will be present at the European Film Market. The first major market of the year that attracts professionals from around the globe has announced a few organisational novelties.
The EFM, which takes place primarily at Martin-Gropius-Bau and the Marriott hotel at Potsdamer Platz, will return to the western part of the city in the newly renovated Zoo Palast complex, which will host 5 of the 39 screening venues (3 medium sized and two small theatres). For the first time this year, participants will be able to view catch-up screenings (3 titles per section).
The market, which “promotes a new generation,” according to its director Beki Probst, will strengthen its ties with the Berlinale Talents (former Talents Campus) at the new initiative Berlinale Talents Market Hub by offering ten distribution professionals a stand in Martin-Gropius-Bau. Experience shows that most Berlinale Talents participants come back as directors, which is why it is important to heighten their visibility.
The Industry Debates, in partnership with the three magazines The Hollywood Reporter, Screen International and Variety, will deal with numerous issues, notably simultaneous releases, a topic of major concern to the film sector. Beki Probst adds: “A growing number of buyers are getting into new formats or diversifying their activities, so it’s important to put the subject on the table.”
This year the EFM will have 7,600 participants, including over 1,300 buyers from Asia, Latin America, South Africa and Europe. A delegation of South African directors will be guests of honour.
Three winners of the Europa Cinemas Label will be screened at the EFM:

THE NOTEBOOK (LE GRAND CAHIER) - Februar 9th - CinemaxX Studio 13
