Label Europa Cinemas @ Festival del film Locarno


Locarno, 6-16 August 2014, 4 Network exhibitors from Poland, Belgium, the United Kingdom and South Africa will take part in the “Europa Cinemas Label Jury” on the occasion of the upcoming Festival del film Locarno in Switzerland.

The 4 Jury members will award one film among the 10 European films competing in Concorso internazioanale and Cineasti del presente selections.

JON BARRENECHEA, Picturehouse Cinemas, LONDON (United Kingdom)

Jon Barrenechea is the Project Development Manager for Picturehouse Cinemas, UK's largest art-house cinema group, developing new cinemas and projects in the UK. Jon sits on the Management Board of the Film Hub South East, part of the British Film Institute's Film Audience Network. This Network, made up of 9 Film Hubs, enables film and events experts to work in partnership and to boost film audiences across the country, particularly in the areas of specialised and independent British film.

ANDRÉ CEUTERICK, Cinema Plaza Art, MONS (Belgium)

André Ceuterick is an experienced film lover who is at the head of the Department of Culture and Film of the Hainaut Province (Belgium) and of Cinema Plaza Art in Mons. He also works as a journalist and a movie reviewer for national radio channels and newspapers. He founded the International Film Festival in Namur and the International Love Film Festival in Mons in 1986 and 1985 respectively, and acts as their managing director. He also runs the « Hainaut Cinéma », a non-profit organization coproducing short and feature films.

CLIVE FISHER, Ster-Kinekor Theatres, JOHANNESBURG (South Africa)

Clive Fisher has worked at Ster-Kinekor for over 13 years at various levels, from cashier, controller and manager to the position that he holds today as general manager of acquisitions and scheduling for South Africa’s leading cinema chain. He is responsible for overseeing the scheduling of all the line-ups for the 60 cinemas throughout South Africa. He also looks after the Ster-Kinekor SELECT brand that buys independent, art-house films from various festivals around the world, for release in the Ster-Kinekor circuit.

GOSIA KUZDRA, Kino Muza, POZNAN (Poland)

Since 2007, Gosia Kuzdra has worked in Kino Muza, one of the oldest art-house cinemas in Poland. Under her management, Kino Muza's admissions increased by 500% and the theatre became an important cultural spot in the city of Poznan, with diverse and consistent programming and an open attitude towards viewers. Gosia is also co-founder and programmer of No Women No Art Festival. This year, she fell in love with a road trip film and she started a distribution company, GoTo Films, to release it in Polish theatres.

Europa Cinemas, partner of the Industry Days (Step In, 9-10 August 2014)

The jury members will also participate in the Step In initiative in the framework of the Festival‘s Industry Days – partner of Europa Cinemas since 2013.

From 9 to 10 August, Step in will welcome more than 70 professionals (most of them: sales agents, distributors and exhibitors) at Belvédère Hotel for 2 days of workshops and debates.

On the Agenda of the 3rd edition: a focus on Brazilian and South African markets and discussions about the circulation of European films and audiences development.
